I've checked the power settings and set all of the settings to 'never' but still have i just installed windows 7 and updated to win 10. I used to think that the screen went blank but today I noticed that it dimmed so much it almost was blank but not quite.

Hello, g'day I have a HP Envy m6 Sleekbook and just today I have realized after plugging in the ac adapter that tge screen woul go completly black. 
If you've got a black screen on boot, various things can cause the problem on Windows 10.
There are 8 solutions to help you fix the PC turns on but the screen remains black issue. When I plug it back in the screen comes on. If I unplug my charger, the screen returns to normal. Then click the “Change advanced power settings” link. It also turns black sometimes after exiting the game. HP calls them Action Keys, and it's a BIOS setting. I did some searching trying to find a way to lock the function keys and luckily I was able to find one. By default the special actions on each key was used instead. I found that out of the box, you had to hold down Fn in order to do that. However, it would require using the F1-F12 keys a lot. I purchased a stack of Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX laptops the other day because they were super cheap and fit their purpose almost perfectly.
